Walgreens in Miami, Florida - Do they or do they not have the meds prescribed?

My 11-year-old daughter woke up with a nasty cough and mild fever. Her pediatrician was out of the office that day, so we took her to MDNow. We had been there several months ago with her on a weekend when her pediatrician's office was closed, and they were helpful. She was diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis. At about 11 a.m., the doctor there electronically sent two prescriptions to Walgreens in Miami Shores, FL, which we have used since we moved here 9 years ago. One Rx was for antibiotics; the other for prednisone in a suspension. At 12:30, I called Walgreens to see if the prescriptions were ready. The automated response was that one prescription was ready and the other was being processed. At 1:15, I got an automated call from Walgreens that the prescriptions were ready to pick up. I had another appointment, so at 3:00, I drove over, went to the drive-thru, and was given one prescription for the antibiotics. I told the pharmacy technician at the window that the doctor had sent in two prescriptions. She said, "We only have one." I asked her to please check on the other one. She looked around the counters, checked the bins, then spoke to the pharmacist. She came back to the window and said they did not have the prednisone suspension, that they would have to order it, and it would be in the next day. Having had to deal with this in the past, and having an 11-year-old that sounded like she was coughing up a lung, I told her, "No. Please check another Walgreens and see if they have it. I can go pick it up. And if another Walgreens doesn't have it, please call the doctor and have the prescription transferred to CVS." She said they would call the doctor and call me back. I paid for the antibiotic and left. At 5:30 p.m., I called Walgreens back (since I hadn't heard anything from them), and explained to the pharmacy tech what had happened earlier in the day. I asked her what the status was on my daughter's medicine. She said the medicine was there and was ready to pick up. When I asked her about being told they didn't have it earlier, she didn't know anything about it. Huh? Either you have the medicine or you don't. Don't tell me you have to order it, then turn around and tell me it's ready. Did they really not have the medicine? Did they get it from another pharmacy? Did they forget to fill it the first time and tell a lie to cover their error? Or did it magically appear? I'd just like to know the truth, whatever that happens to be. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this scenario has played out this way. Of course, when I complained about my own prescriptions not being filled properly or in a timely manner, I must have ruffled some feathers, because every new Rx or refill I've ordered since then have been filled right away. Now I have to ruffle more feathers to get my daughter's meds. I'm so tired of being treated in this manner by this pharmacy. It's time to transfer all my family's prescriptions to CVS or another local pharmacy. As convenient as the location is to my home, it's not worth the stress and frustration to try to get our prescriptions filled there.

Well, I asked my pharmaicist why I always get a recording saying "I'm sorry, the medication you have ordered is not available." Since I get a bunch of them, and they don't specify, this is not helpful. They never tell you when the medication IS ready. So to find out I either have to wait in a long line or wait un hold for a long time. My pharmacist said "That system is failed. It fails the customer and it fails us." Nice to know.

I need about ten medications every day, sometimes more. Most of the time, none of them are mind altering. I never know when they will come in. My life is a treadmil of calling Walgreens, calling my doctor, calling medi-cal and going to walgreens.

So I wanted to cut this down and order a ninety day supply, which they said I could. I also wanted to go on a long vacation, but I have to have my pills on time.

So I told my doctor that Walgreens had said Medi-cal approves a 90 days supply, and he wrote my presecritions that way. I want in and the clerk said "the doctor didn't say that it should be changed to ninety days." At this pointed, I got pretty upset. I had talked to my doc about it for half an hour. So another clerk stepped in and said that all I could do was wait for medical. I kept asking if I should call my doctor and she kept saying no, it won't help. This made no sense, so I did call my doctor. They told me that a request for a ninety day supply had been made and to call the pharmacist. The pharmaicist kept insisting that nobody had ever told me that a ninety day request had been made. I din't want to make that the issue of the fight, but it is pretty irritating to be tld that nobody told me something that I clearly remember them telling me. I am not phsychotic and I do not hear voices.

I finnaly called medical when I realized that I was running out of a pill in four days. They told me that the prescription is about to expire and Walgreens should have called them. So I went back in (they didn't pick up the phone) and the pharmacist was very hostile to me, but agreed to put in the tar that they should have put in in the first place.
