The $40 is the price set by Walgreens. Yes medications here can be more expensive but it is your responsibility to do your research before you pay for something.

I work in their pharmacy and the system makes it almost impossible to refund. You are basically asking us to do something we are unable to do. We are also filling hundreds of rxs per day, making sure medications are correct and ensuring no drug interactions, rather than looking to see if your proair is competitively priced. Even if it isn't fairly priced, there's nothing we could do about it because that's what corporate wanted.

So take it up with them. Frankly, we can't stand ignorant customers like you and your mother that throw fits but have no clue about retail pharmacy operations.

If someone has a valid prescription from their doctor, how is it legal for them to refuse to fill the script? If they are in doubt about the validity of the script, they can simply call the doctor.

I keep hearing more and more about these pharmacists who think they can overrule doctors and refuse to provide people with their medications. And spare me any comments about the pharmacists knowing more about drugs than the doctors.

Every time I have asked a pharmacist a question about a medication, they have always had to consult a book or an internet webpage to get an answer. heck, I can do that myself!

Walgreens in Miami, Florida - Do they or do they not have the meds prescribed?

2.8
Details
My 11-year-old daughter woke up with a nasty cough and mild fever. Her pediatrician was out of the office that day, so we took her to MDNow. We had been there several months ago with her on a weekend when her pediatrician's office was closed, and they were helpful. She was diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis. At about 11 a.m., the doctor there electronically sent two prescriptions to Walgreens in Miami Shores, FL, which we have used since we moved here 9 years ago. One Rx was for antibiotics; the other for prednisone in a suspension. At 12:30, I called Walgreens to see if the prescriptions were ready. The automated response was that one prescription was ready and the other was being processed. At 1:15, I got an automated call from Walgreens that the prescriptions were ready to pick up. I had another appointment, so at 3:00, I drove over, went to the drive-thru, and was given one prescription for the antibiotics. I told the pharmacy technician at the window that the doctor had sent in two prescriptions. She said, "We only have one." I asked her to please check on the other one. She looked around the counters, checked the bins, then spoke to the pharmacist. She came back to the window and said they did not have the prednisone suspension, that they would have to order it, and it would be in the next day. Having had to deal with this in the past, and having an 11-year-old that sounded like she was coughing up a lung, I told her, "No. Please check another Walgreens and see if they have it. I can go pick it up. And if another Walgreens doesn't have it, please call the doctor and have the prescription transferred to CVS." She said they would call the doctor and call me back. I paid for the antibiotic and left. At 5:30 p.m., I called Walgreens back (since I hadn't heard anything from them), and explained to the pharmacy tech what had happened earlier in the day. I asked her what the status was on my daughter's medicine. She said the medicine was there and was ready to pick up. When I asked her about being told they didn't have it earlier, she didn't know anything about it. Huh? Either you have the medicine or you don't. Don't tell me you have to order it, then turn around and tell me it's ready. Did they really not have the medicine? Did they get it from another pharmacy? Did they forget to fill it the first time and tell a lie to cover their error? Or did it magically appear? I'd just like to know the truth, whatever that happens to be. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this scenario has played out this way. Of course, when I complained about my own prescriptions not being filled properly or in a timely manner, I must have ruffled some feathers, because every new Rx or refill I've ordered since then have been filled right away. Now I have to ruffle more feathers to get my daughter's meds. I'm so tired of being treated in this manner by this pharmacy. It's time to transfer all my family's prescriptions to CVS or another local pharmacy. As convenient as the location is to my home, it's not worth the stress and frustration to try to get our prescriptions filled there.

Actually according to Florida law it IS the pharmacists business to ask those questions.

Similarly, state law requires pharmacists performing their duties to exercise professional judgment in the best interest of patients’ health. Before honoring prescriptions, they are required to take reasonable steps to determine whether a prescription has been issued in compliance with state law.

A pharmacist can refuse to fill a prescription if professional judgment suggests filling it would be contrary to law, be against the best interest of the patient, aid or abet an addiction or habit, or be contrary to the health and safety of the patient.

So good luck finding a legal pharmacy who will just fill a prescription, period. CVS will do the exact same thing.
